WELCOME TO HOMO NOBILIS!

Do you sense a void in your life? Do you feel your life is pointless, and without purpose or direction? Do you wish you knew what was the point of it all?

Welcome to the Homo Nobilis home – a virtual abode to explore the deeper questions of life. Here we will challenge our conventional ways of thinking, dive a bit deeper into the mysteries of life, and try to make sense of our place in the grand scheme of things. We will explore some of the profound questions that revolve around the meaning of our existence: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going?

How is the mystery of life explored?

Typically, when we delve into the subject of the meaning of life, we do it from particular perspectives only. Scientists – or those inclined to believe that science offers the best explanation to everything around us – entertain life’s questions from a purely scientific perspective. They break down everything into atoms and molecules, quarks and leptons, matter and energy. To them, the observable universe is the only reality and anything outside of it – religious, spiritual, supernatural – is a myth and fantasy. They try to fit everything – the universe, our world, life, biodiversity, human experiences, emotions, feelings, and thoughts – within the paradigm of the physical and natural sciences. To them, science is the only truth – absolute, universal, and exact.

The other dominant perspective to explain the mysteries of life comes from religion. Proponents of this position come in all shades and colors. Some reject any scientific position – even well-established – that conflicts with their religious dogmas. Others attempt to reconcile science with their religious worldviews as best as they can. And there are still others who accept scientific viewpoints even if they conflict with their religious views, admitting deficiencies or incompleteness in their understanding of the world. People with positions based on faith are typically influenced by the religious environment they grew up in. To them, a world without the spiritual or supernatural does not make sense.

And then there are the philosophers. Their passion is to reason with the reality of things and come up with rational explanations for the world around them. Philosophers are more concerned with the ‘why’ and not the ‘how’ of things. They typically do not hang on to science or religion to construct their worldviews, though they may lean on to some of their ideas and thoughts. The worldview of philosophers is, many times, heavily influenced by the tides of times – culture, place, and era of the world they grew up in. To them, using one’s mind to figure out things offers the most rational path to explaining life.

What is missing from all such perspectives? A holistic, balanced, and complete picture.

How is this forum different?

Any complex subject holds multiple facets to it. When we look at a complex problem from one aspect only, we miss key elements of the picture. Any subsequent interpretation of the picture will be incomplete and fallacious. Looking for the meaning of life – a complex dilemma – from one particular perspective only will give us a partial and deficient answer. What is needed to understand the meaning of life is a wholesome approach that looks at the problem from all pertinent angles and forms a balanced picture out of it.

This virtual abode is created to do exactly that. Here, we will look at the big questions of life from different perspectives – scientific, philosophical, religious, historical, and more. The results of the latest research and scholarship in each of the fields of knowledge will be used to explore the mysteries of life. Solid reasoning and logical analysis will be the basis for examining each approach in detail, ensuring that bias and prejudice do not taint our findings. We will collate the results as we go along in our journey, slowly forming the contours of our final destination. In the end, all the data from the different perspectives will be coalesced into a holistic, balanced, and complete picture. This well-rounded approach is generally not followed by analysts and thinkers and is unique to the Homo Nobilis forum.
